Italian Tomato Sauce

  • 3 cup(s) canned peeled whole tomatoes
  • 4 large garlic cloves, lightly crushed
  • 6 tablespoon(s) extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon(s) freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 onions, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon(s) dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon(s) finely chopped fresh basil

Directions

    1. Open cans of tomatoes and drain the liquid out into a bowl. Clean out and discard any seeds you may see.
    2. Mash tomatoes with potato masher or fork. Save liquid reserve for later use.
    3.  In a medium saucepan over medium heat warm olive oil and cook garlic until golden brown and onions. Add mashed tomatoes, salt, and pepper, and stir in basil and oregano. 
    4. Simmer and cook for 15 minutes. 
    5. Discard garlic cloves and serve over warmed cooked pasta of your choice.
